In 1983, he became the Varsity Head Basketball Coach for an ECISD high school team, leading for 25 seasons. His record? An incredible 553–130, making him one of the most successful coaches in district history. Under his leadership:

  • 553 wins in 25 seasons (averaging 22 wins per year)
  • 11 postseason appearances in 13 years
  • 7 District Crowns, including three District 31-5A titles

  • Set a program record with 32 wins in 2008

Coach Filoteo earned Coach of the Year honors five times and was named All-Valley Coach of the Year twice. His success led to his 2008 induction into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame.

Beyond the court, Filoteo served as ECISD Athletic Director, Edinburg Parks & Recreation Director, and UIL Regional Director for multiple sports. He was honored as Athletic Director of the Year in 2011 and twice served as president of the Rio Grande Valley Basketball Coaches Association. His commitment to the sport includes organizing the South Padre Island Coaching Clinic since 1992 and contributing to TABC Camp and Champs since 1985.
