Edinburg CISD Final Exam Exemption Guidelines & Schedule
Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) allows students to earn up to three final exam exemptions in courses required for high school graduation, as outlined in board policy EIAA (Local).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Grade & Attendance:
- Semester average 90 or above → up to 3 excused absences in the course.
- Semester average 85–89 → up to 2 excused absences in the course.
- Discipline:
- No documented Level II disciplinary referrals in the class of exemption or from a campus administrator/off-campus incident.
- Absences Not Counted:
- Documented absences under the Education Code, school-sponsored trips, or absences initiated by an administrator/counselor (see policy FEA for details).
Application Process:
- Students must declare intent and submit the exemption application form before semester exams begin.
- Semester averages will be calculated at the time of application.
- The form requires:
- Student Name, ID#, Campus, Grade Level, Student Signature, and deadline date.
- For each exemption (1st, 2nd, 3rd): Subject, Period, Semester Average, # of Absences, and Teacher Signature.
- Return the completed form to the location specified on the form.
Important Attendance Rule:
Students who qualify for and use an exemption must attend school on the exam day. Failure to attend will result in an incomplete, requiring the student to take the final exam later.
First Semester Final Exam Schedule (2025)
- Monday, Dec. 15: Regular schedule – Review for exams.
- Tuesday, Dec. 16: Regular schedule – Odd Essay Exams (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th).
- Wednesday, Dec. 17: Regular schedule – Even Essay Exams (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th).
- Thursday, Dec. 18: Odd Period Exams
- 1st: 9:00–10:10 AM (Exam)
- 3rd: 10:15–11:25 AM (Exam)
- 5th: 12:20–1:30 PM (Exam)
- 7th: 2:25–3:35 PM (Exam)
- Friday, Dec. 19: Early Release – Even Period Exams
- 2nd: 9:00–10:10 AM (Exam)
- 4th: 10:15–11:25 AM (Exam)
- 6th: 12:05–1:15 PM (Exam)
- 8th: 1:20–2:30 PM (Exam)
- Monday, Jan. 5, 2026: Staff Workday – Teacher grades due by 10 AM.
Note: CTE off-campus students will attend class as scheduled.
